Royalty

February 2021

Recently I unearthed photo copies I made back in the 90’s. I kept a dream journal and explored my family history through painting. Lots of images of women. I started calling them Royalty. Back in the 90’s I had eight foot canvases I was working on using Yoko, Nefertiti and other royal looking women…I remember these images along with shoes and my childhood headboard affixed to eight foot canvases. My old landlord C. allowed me to store these giant paintings in an empty apartment on the first floor of our building. One day he just threw them out. I remain indebted to him as I lived in a top floor apartment over looking the river ( if you squinted) for just $400 a month. Yes, there was no heat and yes, he laughed when I asked about it. Yes, we replaced the old windows ourselves…but still. These pandemic days I have been reworking the idea of Royalty. With so many Yoko’s printed out there are many to go. It’s snowing out. Off to my cave.
